When the melt pump is running, it needs to monitor data to determine whether the equipment is running normally. So what data do we need to monitor?
1. The flow rate of the machine head varies with the change of outlet pressure, and the outlet pressure must be constant. Generally speaking, the fluctuation of outlet pressure should not exceed ± 10psi (1psi=0.00689Mpa). Large fluctuations are usually transmission issues that require motor technicians to adjust transmission parameters. If the melt gear pump is severely worn, such problems can also occur.

2. The change in suction pressure reflects the change in output of the extruder. The main function of the extrusion melt pump is to eliminate these changes, but the range of changes that can be controlled is limited. Even if the melt pump can continuously maintain a constant output of the polymer, the melt temperature will also change. Maintain stable suction pressure, changes in screw speed, and changes in melt temperature. The change in melt temperature directly leads to changes in melt flow and product size in the machine head.

3. The ideal range of suction pressure variation should not exceed ± 100psi. ± 50psi. If the change exceeds this value, the flow rate of the machine head will change. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the sensitivity of the extruder motor to pressure fluctuations. This is usually achieved by increasing the bandwidth of proportional control and pressure detection to give the extruder motor this characteristic. If this method cannot control fluctuations within a small range, it is likely a problem with the extruder itself and therefore must be analyzed separately.
The power required for the rotation of the polymer melt pump gear must be constant. Even if there are some ampere current changes during the driving process, it means there is a problem. This may be a simple parameter setting issue, mechanical issues within the pump body, gearbox, or transmission shaft, or excessive fluctuations in suction pressure.
